Mangalore officially known as Mangaluru, is the major port city of the Indian state of Karnataka. It is located between the Arabian Sea and the Western Ghats mountain range about 352 km (219 mi) west of Bangalore, the state capital. Mangalore is located on the western coast of India at 12.87°N 74.88°E in Dakshina Kannada district, Karnataka state. It has an average elevation of 22 m (72 ft) above mean sea level.

Mangalore is the states only city to have all four modes of transport—air, road, rail and sea.

The maximum average humidity is 93 per cent in July and average minimum humidity is 56 per cent in January. Mangalore experiences moderate to gusty winds during day time and gentle winds at night. The driest and least humid months are from December to February. During this period, temperatures during the day stay below 34 °C (93 °F) and drop to about 19 °C (66 °F) at night.
